Horses for Adoption

Currently, the only states which we work with for horse adoptions and donations are Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and West Virginia. The main breed types that we handle include Arabians, Draft Horses and Mules, Ponies, Quarter Horses, Saddle Bred, Standard Bred and Thoroughbreds.

To ensure the proper care of each horse that visits our farm, we maintain rights to every adopted equine for as long as it lives. This “Protective Ownership” means that the L&FHRF is the sole owner with the rules for adoption simple: don’t breed, race or resell any equine. By retaining ownership, we legally have the ability to reclaim a horse at any time and place it in a more suitable environment if a current situation is deemed unsatisfactory. While this “tough love” rule may seem extreme, it is founded with only the best intentions for each and every equine.

By donating a horse to the Lost and Found Horse Rescue Foundation, both owner and horse can improve their existence. Some advantages include:

  • A lifetime home with full care, love and support.
  • Tax-deductible contributions, which are usually more cost-effective than selling a horse.
  • Former owners may stay in touch with adoptive families for status reports.
  • Horses receive another opportunity to lead healthy, productive lives.

We have numerous young, healthy horses worthy of adoption here at L&FHRF. Most just need a little training, patience and, of course, some TLC. In fact, many of our adopted horses have become serious show competitors in the hunter and eventing fields. Our goal is to find the perfect horse that fits directly into your lifestyle, your home and your heart. We can be reached by phone at (717)428-9701 or e-mail: lostandfound@lfhr.org.

Black and Gold (ON HOLD)
  • 15-year-old
  • Thoroughbred
  • Gelding
  • 15.3 hands
Calvin, as we call him, was brought back to the rescue due to his owner's retirement and getting out of horses. Calvin  has been in our program much of his adult life, and he has been shown in the past. He is easy to ride, has no vices, tacks up with ease, is good for the farrier, gets along well with others in the pasture, and also will trail ride. Sound.

Blue
  • Young
  • Sheep

Blue is one of my favorite sheep. He loves people and other animals of all kinds, and if you are looking for a super nice pasture friend, here he is. Blue is a friendly, nice family pet. A horse meat dealer saved his life as he had a broken leg, and brought him to the rescue. Blue is good to be sheared.

Cody
  • 7-year-old
  • Shetland Pony
  • Gelding
  • 10.2 hands

Cody was an extremely abused pony. He is hard to catch, and once caught, he is afraid that he is going to be beaten. We are looking for a companion home only for him as it is doubtful that he will ever be able to be a riding pony. He is an very, very easy keeper, gets along with farm animals, sheep, goats, donkeys, and cows. Cody is not dangerous--just afraid. Very cute! Cody just needs the right home.

Conner
  • 11-year-old
  • Quarter Horse
  • Gelding
  • 15.3 hands
Conner has had lots of training, he knows how to set his head, rides in a collected frame, yields to the leg, w,t,c with ease, and is comfy to ride. He prefers to live in a run in shed outside, and will do a stall, but will pace a bit and crib, (controllable with a Miracle Collar. Great ground manners, easy to tack, clips, good for the blacksmith. Conner is an all around nice guy. May make a lesson type horse, as he loves attention too.

King O Roo
  • 10-year-old
  • Registered Thoroughbred
  • Gelding
  •  15.3 hands

King has been going under tack for about eight months since leaving the race track. He hacks out through the country with small groups, he walks, trots, canters and has been started over fences in the ring and cross country. King had some anxiety issues but now is trusting to ride and great to work with on the ground. He is willing to learn and needs to be loved by one person--he doesn't do well being passed around. He likes a stable environment, with a consistent routine...

King wears four shoes, has great feet, is easy to catch, and good for the vet. He ships well, too. King is easy to be around and a bit of a wimp with other horses. Please adopt him! For more information please call 410-628-6531

Mister Bee
  • 11-year-old
  • Quarter Horse
  • Gelding
  • 16 hands
Slaughter Rescue. Strawberry Roan. Mr. Bee has a a bit of a  motor and will need at least an intermediate rider. He is not completely sound at this point. When we rescued him a few weeks ago he was about 80% sound, and with some good blacksmithing and rest he is now about 95% sound. He has lovely gaits, and he's extremely comfortable to ride. The more he is ridden the more sound he appears; its when he first starts out that he does not appear to be completely sound. Mr. Bee necks reins, knows his leads, and must have been used for western riding. He was head shy when he first came to us, and it appears that he was "cow boyed". Since being here a few weeks, he is much better and now enjoys a good brushing. He is handsome, and a nice guy to have in your barn, no vices.

Request A Dream
  • 3-year-old
  • Thoroughbred
  • Mare

A dream she is--this young mare is one of the sweetest horses you will ever meet (no kidding). She is awesome, very athletic, a nice quality horse, and the kind you like to have around. Dream is sound, with no vices. Being that she is so young, she will need a person who has experience bringing along a young horse. Don't miss this one!

Update: This filly is a dream to ride--going WTC very quietly in the field and is quite an athletic mover. Starting over cross rails on the longe and gaining confidence.
